I will try with just USB. For the 0db I suggest contacting Kingston as this doesn't appear to be a Windows issue. The USB hypdrx up and down for microphone seemed to be working for me as levels went up and down. So I was having the exact same issue. Ran the troubleshooter and everything, but then I discovered: on the side of the USB dongle there is a hardware switch for 'mute' and it was on.
